Behind the Burning Sun is a poetic and dreamlike journey that began in Gambia and was inspired by the novel Roots : The Saga of an American Family by American author Alex Haley. In this book, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1977, Haley recounts the story of Kunta Kinteh, a child captured in the village of Juffureh and enslaved. Through this family story, the writer gives voice to the fragmented journey of his ancestors and, more broadly, to a living collective memory.
